Surrendering the mind to Christ can be a very difficult thing. You can't see it, but you can feel it! Worry has weight. When we let go, especially over things that we cannot control, you can feel burden lift.
Oftentimes, we only want to be in control of things. It gives us a sense of power, but that should not be our goal. A slave to Christ is not concerned about tomorrow only how we can serve today.
In this study we want you to observe and take the time to interact with the word of God using the S.O.A.P. format. If possible take a day to focus on each part.
Day 1 - Scripture
Matthew 6:34 King James Version (KJV)
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
- Write out the scripture. We suggest that you write out the scripture in at least two versions.
- Feel free to draw a picture or diagram if you like. This activity will slow down your reading through the Word of God.
Every word of the scripture is powerful and useful (2 Timothy 3:16).
Day 2 - Observation
Studying the scripture is important. You want to use this day to identify the who, what, when, where, how and why of the verse or verses that we are observing.
Be creative, draw a picture or diagram of what the Lord is revealing to you as you study. You can draw a timeline or even make a coloring page. Whatever you need to do to capture what you have observed.
Also, search commentaries, dictionaries or other references in the original language for further clarification.
Day 3 - Application
Application or Action
Make a list of the things that are plaguing your thoughts. List those concerns, then surrender them to the Lord in prayer. Release some burdens.
The word of God is active. We encourage you to be active as you are studying this word over the next several days. Take time to do the application and write down your experience. You can also join the "Devoted" facebook community to share with others what you have learned. You can go Live, post pictures and/or video!
Day 4 - Prayer
Prayer: Lord Jesus, so often your Word tells us not to worry, not to be afraid, don't fear. Forgive us for being disobedient to those instructions. Help us to replace those thoughts with the life-giving power of your Word!
The prayer prompt is a starter prayer for your personal time with God. Jot down what's on your heart and share it with God in prayer. We suggest reviewing your prayers often to see how the Lord has responded. Take your time. You have a whole day just to devote to God about what you have been studying. Don't rush. Wait for the Lord to respond.
